Students,

This is your chance to write Ms. Bulion a note about what you learned about being a writer or what you learned about the poems that she writes. But, most of all, we want to thank her for sharing her time with us.

She will be able to read your thoughts, so remember, she is a writer and appreciates other writers who pay attention to word choice, ideas, organization and also conventions so she can understand you clearly.

Enjoy corresponding with our new buddy that we met through the World Read Aloud Day Celebration!

Dear Ms. B,

Thank you for Skyping with us! I was surprised that we were able to talk to real live author and hear about how you get the ideas for your books. I was shocked to hear that you were an oceanographer before you became a writer. This made your poems from At the Sea Floor Cafe even more compelling!!

One question I still have as a writer is, when do you know when your revisions are finished and you're ready to publish?

Sincerely,
Ms. Frens

Dear Ms. Frens and Students,

Thank you so much for your notes! Olivia, Emmett, Trenton K. and Tanner--I had such fun visiting with YOU! Ella, Beth and Syndee, I'm glad you liked the poems I shared because those are some of my favorites. Jason and Yaritza, I hope you are enjoying writing now--you have a head-start on me--keep at it! Evelyn, Trenton, Anibal and Scout, I'm with you--I love the science behind the poems. Hunter and Kaitlyn, I agree, that video is great fun. Thanks to Ms. Frens for finding it so you could watch it. Jason F., Ellie and Ms. Frens, if you chat with any writer, they will certainly tell you that revision is MOST of the work! Sometimes I think I'll never be finished revising my work. Every time I reread it I think of ways to make it better. When I'm working on a novel, I put it away for months after I think I'm finished, so I can take it out again and work on it with fresh eyes. I also give it to other writers to read, and only after I think about their suggestions, I send it off to my agent or editor. It is a looong process! I think it was cool to talk with all of YOU, Katie, and Jillian, I hope I do have an opportunity to visit Michigan one day!
Thanks again for a lovely visit.
Your friend,
Leslie Bulion
